Story Time: building confidence for speeches
Students in Room 1 are practicing speaking in front of an audience, building confidence and using expression when they speak. Each week they choose a picture book to share with their group, they practice reading it with expression at home and then bring it to school to read aloud.

SPEECH PRACTICE
By now you should be thinking about how you are going to present your speech and practicing in front of friends, family and the mirror! Here are the speech finalists from 2009, are there any tips you can pick up from these fine citizens?

SPEECHES 2010
Speeches, the word makes some people cringe and hide away whilst others thrive at the opportunity to speak amongst their peers. This term they are here, with some very interesting topics:
1. Is our climate really changing? Where's the evidence - how do we know?
2. "Show me don't tell me." Talk about air pollution and how to reduce it where you live.
3. One mans trash is another mans treasure - persuade us to recycle.
4. "Make today, better than yesterday, and tomorrow better than today." What are you doing for sustainability?
5. Science is simple common sense at its best.~ Thomas Huxley. In the name of science it is common sense to kill whales

PrEP 2010
We had an exciting PrEP Market Day! Room 1 students worked extremely hard to create interesting, high quality products to sell. It took 5 weeks to plan, produce and sell our goods to our community. Here are some signs created to advertise Room 1's business ventures:

We are confident that our class produced the best products overall, with teddy bears made out of recycled clothing, classy wooden coasters, pinatas with lollies inside them, a dart throwing competition with beautiful origami balls with lollies inside as prizes, poi for sale, and delicious home made baking!

Architecture Study
Wow, what a busy term!! Here are some examples of the work students have been doing in class.

Students learned about famous structures around the world, why are they famous and what do they think is magnificent about their chosen building/structure. They then created some 3D pop out art to accompany their information. It looks absolutely stunning!

FINLAY PARK Statistics
As part of our Statistics Unit this term, students did a statistical investigation on Year 8 Camp at Finlay Park.

They were told to think outside the "favourite activity" question and students chose more meaningful topics such as "how did you get up the hill?". Yes, it sounds rather random, but doing a 1.5km run up and down a hill 3 days in a row at 7am in the morning leaves an impression on our students.
